Default Surly Darkness Day Thread

I know a few of us have been talking about Darkness Day in several other threads, so figured I would start a new one to make it easier to keep up with. I haven't been to Darkness Day yet, but have got to try several vintages of the beer and it is fantastic. I have been to Dark Lord Day, so know how these events typically go, but if any of you guys that have attended DD in the past want to share some of your experiences that would probably be helpful for all.

As of right now, I am planning to fly up from GA, then have several friends from KS and PA trying to make the trip also. Should be a good time!

I have never been to Darkness Day but am planning on going this year. Just need to rope a couple buddies into going.

I was thinking about starting this thread, but you beat me to it!

Darkness Day is awesome. For those who haven't been, here's a bit about it.

There are no ticket sales, it's first come first serve for buying bottles of Darkness. Last year, the first people in line were there at noon the previous day. They give out wrist bands for everyone before the doors open, and I heard last year you had to be there by 8am to get a wrist band. This ensures you get your bottles of Darkness (up to 6 per person). After that, they release the remaining bottles to people without wrist bands, typically around 4:30pm.

The event has bands, food, and of course beer. Last year they had a beer called Damien that was a hoppy stout from the second runnings of Darkness. It may be my favorite beer to date from Surly, so hopefully they do something similar this year. I think the beer is $4 a glass, if I remember correctly.

The line is awesome, and similar to other major beer events, there is a lot of trading and sampling going on early in the morning. People bring rare beers, and locals from their area. Be sure to bring a glass or cup of some kind that you can keep with you or just toss away when the doors open.

We'll be there around 5am this year, bringing a grill and maybe some yard games.

I still think we should try to get some BeerForum shirts made so we can meet up.

I'll be driving up from Kansas to meet up with Skeezerpleezer. Definitely like the idea of coordinating a spot and getting a grill and some yard games going. I also have a friend that works at a merch distro that prints band t-shirts and could probably swing getting some shirts made. And I have a degree in graphic design so if there is enough interest we could probably get some shirts going. Event specific or just beerforum.com

Welcome aboard Curly. This is gonna be a good time. I think I am gonna fly through Chicago on the way to get a healthy amount of Three Floyds, let me know if you want some. What day are you guys going to be there?

For the shirts, do they have a standard pricing? Or can you get some ballpark #s?

I'm interested in a couple bottles of DL if you have extra.

I want LOTS of 3F. Not sure what bombers will be available but would like some Alpha King for sure. As far as the shirts it depends on how many, how big the design, and how many colors you want to print. Ill see if I can get some estimates on Monday. Also, what is the weather going to be like? I'm guessing jackets will be covering t-shirts the whole time anyway.

I don't know if have any extras to get rid of, at may share one at DD.

I will see what else I can find. A couple of the recent FFF seasonals were Apocalypse cow and Moloko. I think Munsterfest is coming up also.

I was unseasonably warm at Darkness Day last year. I know I didn't have a jacket on, but can't recall where it was warm enough for t-shirts.
