Default recommended pubs in UK

I will start this with the Euston Tap - always 8 real ales in top class condition.

If in Belfast, try the Bridge House in the City Centre - usually 8-10 ales on cask and much cheaper prices than any other bar in Befast. I'd also recommend the Crown for its selection of Whitewater ales - but it ain't cheap.

Default UK pub recce

I'm British but I live in the USA. I normally visit El Pais Viejo about twice a year.
My parents live in Nottingham which claims to have the two oldest pubs in England, which is about all it's good for... oh I didn't say that !

I like the second eldest, the Old Salutation Inn (1240). They always have a bunch of guest beers and a friendly barmaid from somewhere in Eastern Europe. I will be there next week so I will report.

Last time they had some fine beers. I also tried the Skullsplitter from the Orkney Islands. At 9.8% I'm afraid it felt a bit like something I should apply to an external wound on my body rather than drink, but that's just me.

The oldest pub, the Trip to Jerusalam isn't so great beer-wise in my opinion, though I have no doubt that in Israel there is a pub called the Trip back to Nottingham and I would like to go there.

Cheers.
